So, you just got to Memphis…

You may know of some places you might want to visit, but you’re not sure where to start. I am originally from the Netherlands and have been in Memphis 10 years now. It took me a while before I found all of the ‘hidden gems’ here. I created this list to help you pick places to visit and hang out. This week I’ll share my top recommendations for coffee shops and restaurants, and next week include more must-see spots like parks and other great locations!

Comeback Coffee is a great spot close to downtown if you’re looking for a place to study with good vibes, great coffee, and a shaded outdoor seating area.

Coffee Shops

Comeback Coffee →

A fun local, modern downtown coffee shop with crafted drinks, yummy pastries and both indoor and outdoor seating. Located in the pinch district, open Tuesday through Sunday.

Belltower Artisans →

A pottery studio, coffee shop and restaurant in one, within walking distance from campus.

City&State →

“Retail and coffee lifestyle store, focused on elevating the everyday and connecting communities.” Located on Broad Avenue, a fun artsy street to visit.

Restaurants

Casablanca →

My favorite restaurant in Memphis. It is a Middle Eastern style restaurant. They have 3 locations and their owners are fabulous! In all 3 restaurants, you truly feel like you are dining in the Middle East.

One&Only BBQ →

Typical Memphis food. It is a little bit of an ‘underdog’, since you usually hear more about Central BBQ (which is also pretty good) but this is my absolute favorite BBQ place. Try their twice-baked potato salad!

Red Koi →

Japanese restaurant with amazing sushi! This has so far been my favorite sushi restaurant in Memphis.

Back next week with more top recommendations! Until then, I wish you the best exploring our wonderful city in this beautiful fall weather!

She completed both her undergraduate degree in Sport & Leisure Management and her Master’s degree in Communication while throwing shot put and discus for the University of Memphis. VISA was the first organization that gave her many international friends, with most of whom she still enjoys hanging out with today. After meeting her American husband here, Vivian stayed in Memphis and now works part-time, while also being a full-time mom to her daughter Nora.
